Understanding Liposuction Surgery
The procedure consists of creating a small incision less than 1/2 inch in length in an inconspicuous crease. Through this incision, a suction cannula, which is a flute-like instrument, is inserted into the fatty tissue. By manipulating the cannula back and forth to loosen the fat, the fat is dislodged and then removed. The La Fontaine Tumescent Technique utilizes an incision that is so small, no stitches are required; in fact, recovery is quicker because the anesthetic solution drains out at the incision site, minimizing bruising. The wounds heal by themselves and virtually disappear with time. This procedure takes between 1 to 3 1/2 hours, depending on the amount of fat removed and the area to be sculpted, and you may be discharged the same day, or the following day.
What to Expect After Your Liposuction Surgery
Patients are able to return to normal activity soon after the procedure. Some patients can return to light aerobics, tennis, golf, and jogging within 2 days.
